One of the things we love about forest school is what the wideness of the space offers for our dramatic play. Today, it allowed many different stories and experiences to weave together.
We started the day with some music, experimenting with how loud or quiet we could be. Turns out our outdoor kitchen is great for drumming on. While this was going on, some pirates began to work on making a ship complete with a flag and treasure maps 🏴☠️
One of us felt all the music and looting was getting a bit too too loud, so a few forest friends went somewhere quieter to find our own individual voices. In that space, we realized we were also on a boat. As we sang quietly along with the harmonica "row row row your boat...", paddling slowly, we thought we might sneak up on the pirate ship to see what they were up to. But we needed our maps to do that!
So, back to map making we went 🗺️
After we coloured our maps (a story for another day), and hopped back onto our sneaky boat, we realized everyone was getting hungry. Time to catch some gully fish! [see photos of the fish fry below, including a special Fish Recipe written in the notebook]
After all the teachers were fed, the hungry pirates were also offered some gully fish. If we feed them, will they share their treasure with us? Unfortunately, it's hard to say where the treasure is these days as it keeps getting stolen and the map has now been buried for safe keeping.
Until next time...
