Forest School in Winter

With Winter coming in cold this week, we got a good glimpse into what Forest School in Winter might look like. And rest assured, it's still lots of fun! We spent a few of the warmer days in the forest, a few cooler days at the forest and the daycare centre, and a few really cold days at the daycare playing inside and outside.

Travelling a bit more than what we're used to, we used our sleds to carry each other and backpacks around.

Having some inside time meant activities like telling stories, drinking warm tea (real and pretend), painting, making gems, and lots of lego!

When we were outside, we also had lots to do! We used the gems we made to protect our baby birdies, that were carefully cared for in their nest (stay tuned for this story another time). We shoveled snow into piles, including at the bottom of our slide for a soft landing. We played in tunnels made by the school-aged kids at our centre. We made a house with walls, that doubled as a spaceship. And every day, we visited the river to see how it had changed.

We appreciate observing all the collaborations on different winter projects, while also working to collaborate with the children and their families on what clothes work best to keep us warm! Lots of hard work, patience, and learning as we move into this season together. Have any questions for us or interested in joining? Email us at raccforest@gmail.com.

King Winter is now in the land!

He moves with cold and freezing hands

He makes Jack Frost touch nose and toes

And gives our cheeks a rosy glow!
